My Transit

No there are'nt any holes, i have put apart all the body parts and now its totaly dismantiled, the only two holes are, 1 on the wing which is for the airial [which if you can see well has a one piece black rod on a spring] and the other is covered with filler on the other wing which i noticed recently as i took of the front wings off. I would more say its Police and the interior body was painted light green tourquois. The only chance is to identifie the british number plates. When i ll devellope the photos i ll put a wrightup in the members progress.

@Gerald: As you want to know something about your MK1s former working life in Britain, I think maybe it was a hearse! Delivered in primer grey and then painted black! Are there any holes remaining, intended for mounting coffin rails? Back in the sixties black was a rather unusual colour for vans, so my other thought was about a former van used by the JPS cigarette company, but I don't know what time they intended their black and gold colour scheme and if they even used Transits as delivery vans!

Aslo the Chanel van's livery is black, so could your van have ahd an upmarket past?

thats a good group of transits you have.your mk1 and blue mk2 are very neat .are there many older transits in use in Malta?

Hi Blue meanie, there are quiet alot still around. You can see alot of pickup or trucks in single and double wheel form, these you see them in the country side mainly with farmers to carry their products to the Pitkalija a place were farmers sell their products. Since MOT got introduced in Malta,many have been scraped and replaced by Japanese small trucks. Transit Vans again are being replaced by newer ones, 50 / 50, Transits / Toyota. THe only sector with 99% Transits are the mini busses, as you can see alot of Mk1s and Mk2s, then the smilies and so on, good thing is if an owner of a Mk1 replace his old van, it would be for sure a modern Transit. Yup, they still have the black livery, and own the number plate N0 5.

G'day Malta transit thank you for the speedy reply.after looking at your posts i had to know of the transit situation in Malta.its good to know many are still about.and i think your mk1 has a better body than mine

Hi Blue meanie,photos are nt that reliable. I v got rust on the roof gutters,all doors below, both foot steps, and once i had back out riggers were there was a splas panel. Soon i ll sort my camera i ll post a full story.

Hi Malta transit your van still looks neat.i think most old transits have rust lurking about them.my van has a bit around door bottoms and in the left side wheel arch.am repainting the old girl later this year as some sections are showing the signs of the dodgy short cuts we made when we rebuilt it in the late nineties .i will paint it the same blue colour but am thinking about painting the roof pan white.i look forward to see your pics
