Sorry all been getting ready for a Rally and had some Dramas but all sorted and packed Ok the roof console.... I had thought about this for a while had all the bits I wanted to fit in GME 3200 cb and the 5" Mitsubishi screen I didn't want to drill any holes in the roof so I can pull it out if I sell the van, So I spent a whole Saturday with cardboard and scissors and tape making a mock up then I was going to make a mould and get it vac formed in plastic.... you getting the picture so far lots and lots of friggin about anyway I had it taped up to the roof in position and was sitting there thinking how friggin clever I was when it struck me........ you Idiot!!!
Thats the shape of a small tapered rectangular bucket........ So I jumped in the car went down to the local Hardware joint with the screen in my hand found a plastic bucket that had enough room in the narrow side to fit the bits ( really expensive $6.19)about 3 squids went home marked it up and got the jigsaw into it about 20 mins work including going to the bloody shop to hold it to the roof I made an aluminium plate shaped like a cross that leaves enough room for all the cables to come through ( antena, Power,video feed etc) with a rivnut/nutsert in it this slides up through front interior light hole and lays across the roof lining. You shouldn't need to remove the roof lining to do any of this just remove the left hand plastic windscreen trim and undo the sun visor screws
Inside the bucket ( sorry what am I saying Roof Console) I riveted a bit of ally angle across it with a hole dead centre plus whatever bracketry you need to hold the radios and screen then glued some foam on the outside for tha nice full upholstered look got the missus to sew up the vynl cover( piss easy but she thinks she's clever ) and glued that on
fitted the radio offered it up conected all the wires etc then through the hole for the screen got in and screwed the 1 bolt that holds it all up into the earlier mentioned flat plate through the light hole then push fit the screen in I actually have an ally strap in behind the screen so in can't fall in and just some velcro to stop it falling forward there ya go its patented so all royalty cheques can be sent to me Oh yeah and I mounted the orginal light in the bottom of it you need to unstick the wires from the roof lining but there is enough length to do it with out any other mods its been in about 2 weeks and up and down rough dirt rds and hasn't fallen down doesn't hardly move the screen is for the reverse camera and I made a conecting lead so I have the dvd playing through it as well if I want. Only made one mistake that I am going to rectify I'm going to fit a cig lighter socket in it so I can charge the phone without having the lead stretching up from the bottom of the dash
