My RAC van (i am a patrol) is a 52 plate and done 155k and still not due for replacement...

Some of these vans have a hard life and really get hammered daily, but my one has been really good and its only just starting to get a couple of rust scabs down the n/s sill and rear arch,oh and it smokes a bit when you pull away after its been idling for a while at a breakdown.

The missing head unit is because we have our sat nav units there, (sat nav,cd,radio combo) and all the ford units were probably junked.

As a second hand buy if you can get one that has a shiney/straight body and clean interior straight from service chances are its been cared for as once issued with a van you are the only one who will drive it for the next 5+ years,so it pays to pamper them a bit. :)

Servicing and repairs are done at the dealer as per the schedule every 15k so they are not given any special treatment in that respect.

I will miss mine when it goes out of the fleet as its been a faithfull friend and allways gets me home, but i suppose air con and leccy windows and a bit more power of a tdci will be a nice sweetner.

P.S if you look at the dash fuse box you may find the unused Ford remote fob cable tied to the loom as we used serpi star alarms instead but the remote will still do the locks.

Good luck and enjoy... :) :)

These are for the V.W dedicated patrols to look after the VW,Audi,Seat and Skoda contract but they dont tow any where near as well as a RWD tranny...
