Look closely, this could actually be a transit chasis cab under a detached garage!!

Image

She has a whole replacement chasis by Chasis Services of Lieghton Buzzard, two tanks and two batteries, since the pic was taken, she now has four marker lights each side to stop the French trying to dive through her. She was actually manufactured in 1985, but not registered until 1988 and has an E plate.

This is her (on the left) with her sister.

Two tanks?

Postby Rifleman » Sun Mar 13, 2005 11:26 pm

Can I enquire if it was very difficult and expensive to fit the second tank??, Is it custom made or are tranny tanks able to be put on either side? , you XXL must have a hell of a long range, where do you take her to?

Sorry to disappoint you, but the 2nd tank was there when we bought her. They are standard Mk2 tanks, one in front of the other, on the usual (passenger) side. I think that it could have been part of the package that Chassis Services fitted. There is only room for this if you have the humongus chassis extention! She's been all over Europe, this year to Milan and Paris so far.

That has a very similar wheel base to my old Mk2 recovery truck, mine was a factory conversion (or at least it was purchased new from a ford dealer in that spec) had a 3 peice prop and it could take a jag with no overhang.
bit of a large turning circle though
that looks nice mate :D

Welcome, bortaf! This one does have overhang, that's the payoff for having a 15' 6" floor on the body. She isn't a Ford SVO, but the chasis was built by Chasis Services of Lieghton Buzzard, so doesn't have a Ford SVO plate on the passenger step riser, as the other one on the other pic does (and our other 3 Ford SVOs we have do). Top chasis though, better than the Ford! Over engineering at it's best!

BTW, should have said thanx for the compliment, she didn't look like that when we got her! I said a detached garage, and she virtually was one. I spotted her stood on some hard standing in Hackney, being used as storage. Little things were missing when a (completly barking) man delivered her, like

mirrors
steering lock
keys
VRD
rear lights
braking capability (yes, he drove the beast WITHOUT brakes!)

- still, what do you expect for £400?

She DID however come with free rubbish (mostly old tubular metal furniture) in the back! My first job with her after MOT was to go to the tip, and leave behind the rubbish and £50 for the priveledge!

Long Luton

I was just thinking how great a long range overland camper she would make?

Hehehe! Not going to happen, she's made for work, not play! It could be a bit of a difficult conversion, seing how she has a rollershutter rear door. FYI I happen to know she has a sister, the guy we bought her off told us she's still about in Hackney, possibly navy blue and still running, if I have seen right. Also around (but not seen lately) are 2 E regs with rubbish cages on the chassis, but by all accounts the firm that owns them wants to run them into the ground.

Just to prove it, here she is with a couple of our others in Paris earlier this month, parked up after work, including snow! Picture quality has suffered as I tried to compress them.

I just thought, was this a Mk2 or Mk3? Our big un has a 3 piece, but the Mk2s SVOs from Ford's normally come with a 2 piece. If yours was a Mk2, she could have been a Chassis Services order. However all of the Mk3s come with a 3 piece prop. Try explaining that to Prop Shaft Services when you want a new one (they said the SVO was too long for a 2-piece prop, despite Ford proving them wrong for 20 years.....)
