My Tranny

Postby Terry » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:21 am

Having seen Autograss racer's piccies, and as you were all upset :)
by my nit-picking, I thought I had better illustrate what a good Transit van fan I am (almost poetry that),

Like I said when I joined lotsa little mods, no dramatic effects.

Addition

Postby Terry » Mon May 01, 2006 5:55 pm

Since the last photos I have added an 'awning'
Its called a Caravanstore and its just a 'roof' for want of a better description. 3.1 meters long, 2.5 metres wide, rolls up & hangs on the side of the van.
Image
I'll post a photo of it open soon (ish).

I'm interested in your thoughts on that trickle charge solar panel, if you wouldn't mind posting the details and your thoughts

Buzz
Got the awning off Ebay paid £80 and £17 & coppers for the awning rail.
Its called a Fiamma Caravanstore 3.1 metre.
Towsure are doing them on offer £140.00 new.

Gunslinger
It is a standard 'ICP Global Technologies,5 watt battery saver', I got it from Maplin's when they were doing a special half price offer it was
just shy of £40.00 (I got 2). I leave it connected to a leisure battery
behind the seat, and have had no problems at all. It has a 'blocker' diode so it won't discharge the battery. (might as well be magic to me !)
(I seem to remember someone on this forum fits solar panels ! ? !) I must admit I would like to find out/more about solar power.

AndyG
I had exactly the same problem with my foglights so I just
installed everything fresh, no (other) Ford parts. I daren't photo
the wiring under the dash, several people on here would have
nightmares

My only beef(s) about the cruise control are the steering wheel hides
the led(s) and it is mounted where I wanted to put the (Ford) radio
remote.
I'll take some photo's of the various bits.

Various bits

Postby Terry » Wed May 03, 2006 8:35 pm

Here are some photos as promised.
Image
Thats the cruise control... control the 2 identical switches to the left
are one for spots ,one for fogs, ( DONT put switches there, the dash is double skinned !....with about half inch between them ! the oblong switch below is the heated seat switch (still inoperative).
Image
Stuff of nightmares, the 2 relays upper left are for the heated windscreen
(theoretically drivers side clears first..ha..ha), the 2 relays to the right(upper one hidden) are for battery powered devices and lower for ignition controlled devices. Phone is incorectly connected elsewhere !
Image
both solar panels, the left one does the leisure battery the right one connect through the 'speakon' connector to charge the main battery.
Image
As the solar panel has a 'blocker diode' I assume connecting it here will charge the main battery & I can use it to power the laptop when I am on
the move..

Does any one else hang a carrier bag on the glove box door for their rubbish ?

interesting toys .... where did you get the solar panels from .... and why is it that heated screens are only easily available for newer vehicles, when it is the older ones that would benefit more form them

Solar panels

Postby Terry » Wed May 03, 2006 9:22 pm

The solar panels came from Maplin when they did a special offer ,
middle of last year sometime.
As for the heated screens , I have no idea, I am supposed to have one in my Scorpio Ultima, but its been in a crash (before I owned it) & they replaced it with a 'normal' one (saved all of £50 quid !), eventually I may get round to replacing it. Gonna save up & get the tranny chipped first,
gonna start calling in debts !

So belly is on his own :( It's my guess that these lights, along with others, are computer controlled and therefore this is what needs to be addressed, software wise

I'm suprised with all your obvious knowledge and probably like me, not afraid of the odd wire, that you   didn't look into the idea of fitting a "Durashift" steering wheel   and made use of those "on the streeing wheel" switches :?:
Or  did you :?:

You can get a heated front screen for a MK5 :!:

But as it's likely that the insurance is paying, insist on a genuine Ford one, for Right Hand Drive :!:
