I've been loooking at mk5 ambulances, they have all the reflective stickers still on the side, and the blue lights in the grill and on top. It difficult to remove all the stickers without making a mess unless you respray. The lights are built into the bodywork so you'd have to paint over them if you had to remove blue lights and stuff. I am still thinking on an ex ambulance but would need to look further (and get written proof) of what is and isn't legal. If I could then I'd leave all the stickers on and the lights, with a switch which is operable when not in the drivers seat. therefore off road only sort of thing.

the reflective stickers are not illegal! its only illegal if you are useing them in a manner that is seen as trying to make yourself look like police or in your case ambulance. i.e with blue lights and ambulance or paramedic written on the vehicle due to the fact you are neither employed as either the hi-vis stickers are only there as a warning to others of your pressence
most recovery opperators now run with hivis signage as its ideal for them in warning of there presence on the road

I'm sure I read somewhere that blue reflective vinyl wasn't legal as it lights up blue. But from reading the road vehicle lighting regulations it appears to be legal

the blue is perfectly legal in scotland dont know about down south plus the stuff that the cops use is called 3m diamond check and they have pics of it on recovery trucks based in newcastle.

Aye seen a few recoveries from the same company patrolling the A1 in Newcastle, think they have pink and blue vinyl

and this is one that has the lower grade recovery checkers the saturn is more a dull yellow but the blue is the same spec as police vehicles

Yeh like that, think they have some of them isuzu's and canters, along with 1 or 2 honda pan-euro's

you get away with fire and ambulance, it's police you get into trouble for. The van is geogous, I would have preferred to make it civilian though.

The lights only a temperary thing (while we get some money). Eventually it will be painted up and the windows will be filled in, to make it like an original panel van. We'll get rid of a few silly dings too
