the axel has been split or been rammed onto sumthin realy hard and has been welded along the lengh of the crack noticed it the other day when the van was on the lift and decided now to bin the axel and get a reco one or a axel from a doner. rather have a reco 1 though :!: the welding just looks realy shoddy so would rather see the axel gone than taking the chance of the weld givin up and sumthin caterstrothic happenin :( so its gettin sent for weight :D

I never heard of anybody welding an axle before, I thought they were cast iron. :?

Welded plenty Fred, nothing wrong with welding cast iron.

Oh, OK, never heard of anybody doing it that's all. If I found out one of ours had a cracked axel I would get it replaced. Sounds like that's what bigmastiff is going to do anyway.

Welding of Axles is a common practice in rodding circles its ok if done right think you will find most are cast steel these days .
old ford's never die they just go faster
