I guess you are sleeping a lot in your van (saw the pics on your bed, nicely done!) so what type of heating do you use when it's cold outside?

Additional batteries and stock diesel-heater?
A sleepingbag for lowtemp?

How long can the stock heater run with dual batteries (with the temperature knob in the middleish :P )?

Yes do quite a bit of sleeping in my van,I use an Eberspacher D2,its fitted just behind the drivers seat as there's nothing underneath to fowl any of the pipes that come from the unit..I do tend to use a sleeping bag a bit now as when I used to sleep across the seats I had the original Ford bulk head fitted so the cab was pretty much air tight..now with the Hatcher unit I've fitted there are alot of gaps around it so the heat escapes quicker,in a way I'm heating the whole of the Van if you like, its not so bad when I'm loaded right up but the last few weeks I've been running down to Paris with one pallet and you can notice the difference.
To be honest I've hardly ever had the D2 on full wack,I set it to about midway when I get up in to bed and more often than not, when I do wake up its just ticking over as it has a temp sensor on it so cuts in and out as needed...
Probably the best thing I've bought for my Van,along with Winter tyres..

Latest French trip.....
Delivering in Izaourt,S O France
Image
Image
Image
Then back to Courterets about a 90 minute drive to pick up a few boxes etc etc to go to Arras,Northern France.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
From Cauterets it was up to St Jean d'Angely north of Bordeaux to load another 7m3 for Southend on Sea.
Image
Left St Jean at about 9pm on Tuesday night, eta in Arras was 02.30 going all Toll but I nipped off the A10 just north of Tours to cut up to Chartres non toll but then the weather worsened,I got to Chartres OK but then nipped on A11,back on A10 in towards South East Paris,Down to one lane on Motorway into Paris and in and around Paris was prtty sh-t,everything stopped coming out of Paris around Aulnay so had to divert, about 6" of snow by then... :( Got back on A1,Autoroute du Nord just before Charles de Gaulle, then after going through Peage at Senlis
Image
Image
Image
I saw all the Trucks parked up on inside lane and Hard Shoulder,my diesel was running low, about 100 miles left in tank so was going to get some in services just after C de Gaulle but couldn't get in because of the trucks.... :( so then headed for next services about 30 miles north but diverted off by Gendarmes... :(
Couldn't find a garage...cut across country trying to get back on A1 but first exit onto A1 I found was shut, lorries and vans all over the shop, managed to get some derv... :D I thought if I get stuck out here I aint gonna freeze to death...
Image
Image
Eventually after about an hour of battling along D roads full of snow..
Image
Image
I got back on to the A1...
Image
Only to go about 5 miles and everything stopped....I sat and waited thinking we would get going soon,it was about 04.30 on Wednesday by now... :(
I dosed off here n there but didn't get up in my bed in case everything started moving.... :(
Finally at 06.30 I went to bed....F**k it I thought I'm bollo--d :(
Woke up about 08.30....
Image
Image
Image
Finally they got Cars and Vans going at about 15.00 hrs Weds, they took us off the A1 via an emergency vehicle exit/entry and it was across country to Arras.
Image
Image
Image
Tipped in Arras at 17.15,then headed for a fave services on the A26 at St Hillaire Cottes, showered and some grub, night heater on,DVD on and a nice early night...woke up to this on Thursday morning...
Image
Anyway up to Calais, back in to UK about 10.30am,up to Southend, tipped,up to Ipswich to pick a few bits up for Italy next week, then back in to Essex to pick up another 2m3 for delivery in Highbridge which I done on my way home, finally got home at 9.15 onThursday....
Happy Days...
