Forgot to mention, before I took these pics Bobbie the Builder was in the garage, cos I knew when we bought her there had been a 'welding accident' involving the firewall. Somebody (not too competant) had been welding just under the fresh air intake for the cab, and it had melted the dash. So I set about replacing it with a good one. On taking it out, I discovered the full extent of the 'accident'. Not only was the plastic of the dash, that holds the radio, melted, but the whole of the top of the heater (which I had noticed didn't work) was barbequed!! As it also involved the wiring loom that passes over the dash, and electrics are not my strong point, I booked her in to be on the safe side. One lot of crispy plastic is more than enough for a 21 year old tranny! The wiring loom is now fine, but the heater will have to be replaced, and the temperature/tank gauges had to be replaced. I did solve on mystery, the engine WAS running at the right temperature, it was the dash that was saying otherwise! Oh, and when I drove away I realised she was running on fumes!!

thats what they are there for   nobody walks on them these days
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

You HAVE to park half on and half off around our way, the parking spaces are actually formally set out (panited) like that. Though admittedly not where I was, though I am loading on a single yellow line, if you want to get picky! :P

i watched someone roll back the carpet inside a car and then lift the car up on the ramps, clean up underneath and weld a plate on .... was a real shame the carpet had rolled back part way and set fire to the inside of the car

wasnt even his car !! cost him more to repair that than he got for welding it in the first place

Quite honestly, no. Having run lutons for twenty years rust is the luck of the draw. Also geography plays its part. Up north there are harder winters, and in turn there is a lot of salt dumped on the road. Salt is the biggest killer. At least with a chassis cab what you see is what you get, and with a tipper more so. To the point I am thinking of puttin tipping gear on the lutons   just so I can see the chassis!!!

Nice workhorse you have there. Would it be possible to get pics on the tipping body structure? How the lift cylinder is fitted and so on? I'm still thinking about fitting my Transit with tipping gear as it would be more useful. It would be helpful to see how it's done.

Hi Aki, I will see what I can do about pics of the tipping gear, she's due for an up/down of the bed soon, but I have been to the propshaft repairers with a couple of props, and they are sitting in the bad at the moment. It's a hydaulic ram witha n electric motor if that helps.

That's ok, I can wait. I worked at the transportation fair we had in Helsinki a week ago and could see some of the newer designs. I would anyhow be interested how it's done on an older Transit. I've tried to find pictures of finnish made tippers but have seen only the one that I posted earlyer:

Image

I'd like mine to be 60-70's design as the plan is to get my transit inspected as an museum-vehicle and it should represent it's time. I might be trying my luck but at least with an modern three-way tipper and aluminium body thre is no chance. It will reduce some of the 1000kg load capacity but I think I will manage.
