Kapiti Island with new Transit

Postby WanganuiLad » Tue Dec 19, 2006 11:51 am

Well new to me anyway :)
She is a millenium non turbo, twin slider, 85k mls...
quite tidy and very tight
Will bring her up to scratch over the summer...
Polishing up the Mk2 for the sale will be quite something after 12 years of faithful service

cheers from NZ

Shouldn't the weather be a bit brighter down there for this time of year?

I was in Wangavegas myself about 2 years ago from April-June, wrong time of year for me though, I was 'kin freezin then!
But nice place and nice people, I've never spent so much time having long chats with complete strangers in my life, and got so many shouts for a beer or to come for dinner I didn't know who to turn down.

Took me ages to figure out why they kept saying they had an upside-down River though!

The road down gave me a chance to check the handling :)

no need for brakes down hill, just slight lift and the lump under the bonnet did the rest...
I need a responsive motor :D
considering something like this...

No No the mk 5 :)
The Mk 2 is running fine on its un reconditioned 1980 pinto :)
The first time I 'booted' the Di over an intersection, I knew it had to go :D
I think I'll stick it in a plastic bag for the day when biodiesel is cheapest.
So now the rather pleasurable trawl is on for a nice petrol motor to run on LPG.

No replies because it is locked, the screw opens up the mid range fueling giving you a bit more power.

I have to agree there are some absolutely cracking roads down there, and more than a few scary ones too :)
Went on the river road out of Wanganui a few times, and that was pretty 'interesting', but the one that really had me bricking it was driving up Ruapehu from Ohakune. Wet, foggy, up in the clouds, single track road, no barriers and practically no verge, a huge drop off the side, and everyone driving down from the other direction like they were in the World Rally Championship

Change of underwear was definitely needed after that!

I had a spot of bother up that mountain road one winter...
headed up in the Mk2, didn't notice the 'chains only' sign, overlooked the road closed one...
was too busy admiring the white land scape,
white road even...
van started slowing down a bit, then a bit more...
realised with no little trepidation that this due to total wheelspin...
all forward motion ceased and the roll back bagan
managed to avoid the icey death in gully and backed a couple of miles to the "not past this point' sign
tried to be good ever since
