My factory 6cylinder petrol MK1

These are photos of the factroy fitted 6 cylinder in my mark 1. As you can see you get a minor engine/transmission box inside the cabin but it dosn't bother me at all and you can still easily sit three across the front.

The engine is a 3300cc 6cylinder out of an Austrailain Falcon/TC Cortina with a three speed borg warner 35 automatic. The engine (according the the workshop manual which i know is in-accuriate) puts out 101kw/135hp at the flywheel. So it goes well for a van. The engine bay is a mess .... alot of the mess is due to my LPG system but with the current price of petrol i would be struggling to afford to run it on petrol where as on LPG it costs me less that a Corrola :D . And i am poulting less too (just an added bonus) lol.

The six cylinder was an option on every mark 1 and 2 here in Aus as far as i know. Some mark 2's were even fitted with the 4100cc model wich had 165hp.

However i am not sure of the configuration of the factory fitted automatic shifter, mine is from a TC cortina as my car was originally manual and it was converted to an auto in 1990 when my grandfathers left knee gave out and he could no longer push the clutch.

Hope you like it

Oh I thought that the auto was part of the package, because there wasn't much roomwith the straight 6. Very interesting though.

Very interesting!! Cheers stooy :D
also think the dashboard looks very retro cool 8) in white!!!
My van was an auto when it left the factory but unfortunatly it was removed before i got it, all that was left was the slot on the dashboard!!
I aslo see what you mean with the footwell i think i could live with that for a bigger engine, thats what i'll do when i go back to the flat front!! :D

The auto i belive was an option and it fits in the place the manual came out of with no adaptions. Originally it was a 3 speed borg warner manual and the auto fitted perfictly in the with no tail shaft modifications or anything.

The dash is also complelty original (execpt for the sony cd player, gas switches and guage). It was allways white.

Could be wrong, but I think that in the seventies if you ordered the van in Paint from Ford, they sprayed up the whole body shell, including the dash before fitting anything like mechanics. If it came from Ford's in primer, ready for your own livery, the dash was black on the standard vans, wood trim on all custom model vans. anybody remember this ?

You know, that sticky backed plastic fake wood vaneer stuff! It was part of the custom package.
