I open here a new thread to show the progress, if any, of my Transit. I have plans and even some hope to get it on the road next summer.




I have the seats almost ready. They were stripped all down and re-painted. I had to start with them as I changed job and the previous place had the industrial sewing machines.

This You have already seen:


New exhaust was fitted to please the neighbours when I move it around the yard. These came out. Someone had extra time and welding skills...


This is just about all I could find in Finland. All of these were the last ones in store. Dou you still get these in Britain?


They predicted snow for sunday/monday so I quess I won't be getting much done this year unless I get a place rented somewhere. Yesterday I opened the drain plug from the engine block and radiator to be sure that there will not be any freezing damage (didn't have antifreeze in).

aki is that all you could get of the exhaust system??? i know in england the our n/s front pipe is not avalable anymore so i think it must be the same for you ! i can still get the rest of the system but not that pipe, hope your manifold nutts come undone ok!
i am hopeing to be working on a v4 as well this weekend!

The manigold nuts came off easy (I was mentally ready to struggle).
Nothing has really happened since. Here is however some warning examples about giving the death centence to your car.



Noise/isolation blanket was foun all around the cabin, neatly under carpet and glued on with some asphaltic based underbody protection. Someone must have been feeling cold or then the sound of V4 has been too loud.
It has anyway kept the moisture in and given the rust a perfect place to grow.


I guess it will be the heatgun that I'll hold in my hand for an whole weekend to get that off.

Even the doors have the same green blanket inside of them! By now it was just a wet pile on the bottom of the door making its way through.


Altough its quite rusty looking all over this is the worst part of the frame. Most work will be on the sills and doors.

you manadged to do the exhaust then???? did the manifold nuts come undone?????

Yes I got the exhaust installed at this point to please the neighbours and first of all my wife... It will have to come off again for sandblasting, welding and painting but it is not such a big job, now that all the joints haven't rusted together yet. It's hanging on steel wires also, so it's not final.
Manifold nuts came off with no struggle. Previous owner had the engine out for repairs and I guess he has used copper paste on the threads when putting it back together.
I use copper paste on all hot and corrosion sensitive joints to make sure I get them open later on.

wow you were lucky mate ! normaly a manifold off job to sort out the threads!

I finally managed to take the bumper, 8ea of wheels and fueltank to the vocational school for sandblasting and painting. White with code AB, Ermine white, seems to be the right one. Fuel tank will of course be black.
They teach car painters at this school and I've had my Ferguson tractor parts done there before. There is minimum work cost and the result was ok. There is of course new students this year so we will see how good they are...

Otherwise nothing much going on but the renovation of our sauna...

keep going, you'll get there in the end, i too hate that dam sound proofing stuff, it always leads to tears sooner or later, if your feeling brave and have nothing else in the way, blow torch it and scrape it off while the black underseal stuff is still bubling then try thinners to wipe off the worst of that before you clogg all your grinder attachments trying to clean it off

So I finally got to taking the back off. I've used the transit tough, for moving some firewood and other stuff on the property but mainly it's just been waiting something to be done. I hope I get the renovation going now as I would need her to help me out with building a carport/carage by transporting the bricks, steel, concrete etc. At least it's a good motivator to get it done. And I do have 4-6 weeks before I get the permission to build.



The rear lamps were mounted funny. I'm not sure how they should be. I've looked at the spareparts book but it doesn't really show how these lamps should be mounted. I had to cut them off to be able to drive away from under the back. They would have hit the mudguards and I could not lift it high enough alone. And the support is rusty anyway. There is also an extension welded on the body to support the rear end.



In all the body is not too bad. The crossmember supporting the handbrake cables is rusted through but otherwise it sounds healthy when knocking. I'll sandblast the rust away and hope I won't find too much holes.

i think the lights on my mk1 pickup are mounted correctly - ive had a look through my pictures but i can't finf one with them showing - its a triangular angled plate that is bolted on the 2 bolts that hold the towbar! i'll try get a picture for you

but yours does look well mate!! - i would swap chassis with you
