Nice and Nasty

Postby FredTransit » Sat Mar 12, 2005 2:46 pm

This is our 1973 LWB, just as we bought her. The previous owner fell asleep at the wheel listening to Dark Side of the Moon on his 8-track, not sure if 'other' factors where involved!

Image GORGEOUS

OUCH!

APPEAL -
We need some help to get this van back on the road (she only has less than 6,000 miles on the clock!). Our original chosen body shop has lost one of the partners, so the remaining body man can't take on such a big job.

I already have the front roof section, it's identical to the MK2 so we cut a chunk off one we scrapped a while ago. Our body man said the inner wings will pull out as they are sound metal and won't be seen from the outside. The insurance was origilnally paid out with a view to being repaired in 1974, not as a writeoff.

it looks like your gonna have some door post and bulkhead issues, the roof aside (as you said a mkII one will fit) i would rip off all the wings etc and get it back to bare chasis etc, and assess it from there, it might be easier to consider a replacement bulkhead at this point allowing for a 2.5di or later to be fitted, and look for a donor vehile to give up the door post and surrounding area. also looks like the lower windscreen/upper bulkhead pannel is going to give you some grief too :(

doable i think, but a lot of work though, but you gotta strip it right back to basic shell before you can do a full evaluation of whats needed, pulling the inner wings might be an option but if you can turn up spare ones or a donnor vehicle i am tempted to say that would be a better option

Good Luck

As far as I can tell, the door post isn't involved that much, with very little damage to the passanger door. Hadn't thought about the wiper panel, though, I am hoping it's repairable......

just took another look Fred, i would say you have serious "a" post issues! the passenger door is like a banana and the scuttle(screen panel) is slaughtered by the look of it, i would still like to buy this from you Fred and would give a more than fair price if you wanted to sell it. :D

Fred i might have part of the n/s door post you need. (striker plate end not hinge end)

it was part of one i got to put a side loading door in, that one came with the section of door post for the back of the front door, i driled it out as i was not going to be removing my original door post.

from what i can tell is you will need the section that goes top to bottom on the inside (the flat piece that faces inside, where the seat belt mounts to)

pm me if your interested

it is a NOS genuine ford unit, but has surface rust on it

Actually the door post itself is completely untouched, what you can see in the pic is an optical illusion, it's the door at a funny angle due to damage. Ta anyway, Gunslinger.

Hi Fred, just looking at the pics again, how old are these pics? dose it still look like this? or has the dreaded metal moth took its toll?

Geoff these pics are a bit old, but the rust hasn't geot her yet. I am concerned though that without a windscreen the wireing has suffered. She's under a tarp outside.
