'75 MK1 Transit Camper

Postby jamsandys » Mon Jan 09, 2006 10:52 pm

Hi all
Thought it was about time that I posted some pictures of my Transit.

Image

I have to be honest, we only bought it for the camper body, so that we could try camping out - but I think I may have the classic transit bug....
I have fond memories of my Mum and Dads 1984 Mk2 Facelift (A30 GBN) SWB 12 seater Minibus, and my friend has a 1977 Ex metropolitan police automatic van 190? with the sliding doors - great fun for the summer.

Image

The van now has an MOT - it failed on a tyre, 2 draglink balljoints a Kingpin and a wheel cylinder. I'm sure there will be more work along the way, I am just trying to source some missing items (in wanted section) to bring the van up to standard.

Image

I think that the body is later than the van as it has plastic windows - When we had a look underneath there is still a metal floor, so this looks like a cut down panel van rather than a chassis-cab conversion. The cab was originally burgundy, but we found some blue paint there also. Does anyone know what the conversion is?! The interior looks to be hand made, but whoever did it did a great job.

I'd just like to say thanks to the owners of this site for organising an excellent and informative online resource for the Ford Transit - it certainly deserves it. :D

Cheers

That's nice! If you want some metal framed glass windows, I am breaking a 76 in Rotherham.

Thanks, I think Im going to stick with the plastic windows, I managed to get some new locks for them, so they should be more secure and I believe warmer than glass. - not that ive camped out over christmas anyway. Do you think that it originally had glass windows? could it be an original 75 coachbuilt?

The set up is great- thats what sold the vehicle to me, the engine has had a rebuild and isn't the original anyway (last guy cooked it on the M'way) It drives reasonably at 55mph, but a quick look on this forum had me dreaming of an extra couple of cylinders and an LPG conv :D .

Its actually a 5 berth van with a single at the rear of the van, 2(or more!) over the cab and there are extra wide pieces for the dinette bed (2) which make it pretty comfy. It came with a Gas fire, Grill, hob, oven, fridge, shower!, sink, toilet and CD player.

Valsheda -
Only had it since November, and I had to get the MOT and Gas sorted first, so I'm hoping to try some camping at the end of january..
