How are you getting away with the blues on display? I usually drive from set to set with them covered up, as everybody else with action (prop) emergency vehicles do, though I know the police aren't as funny about ambies as they are police (all of our police stuff has magnetic insignia and lights, so not a prob there). I just cover up to make sure, and that light switch is sooooo tempting when you are stuck in traffic! I have never seen an amby with a side door, nice! Did you manage to keep the 2 tones?

did you know ambulances don't pay at the dartford crossing? :D (coincidently you have to take a high vis jacket or vest into europe)
I find it dead handy, most the traffic pulls aside on narrow roads!
The only problem i had was to convince customs at Dover I was going away on holiday and not to work :D
I just didn't have time to cover them up (my excuse) although on the third week i used some black agri tape to cover the fronts (too much gendarme attention)
we still got pulled at Dover on the way back though.
To be honest the police havn't pulled me at all, even when i added big blocks of reflective green, like the newer ambys.
The siren doesn't work and the only lights that work are the ones in the front grill (that button is soooooooooooooo tempting)

Here we are parked up in France (washing day), Rick, my brother recons we never got questioned as it looks like it would be too much hassle with a German registered Swiss post bus and a U.K. registered ambulance

if you go away again, just go frieght and tell them it's a transit. End of story, less questions asked. On the way in and out of the country, follow the trucks not the cars, again less questions and bother. We have a frieght account, PM me and I will give you more details. Did you know that most ambulances on France are private, and a lot are owner drivers. The only 'public' ambulance service is offered by the fire brigade.
