Did you have to do much cutting to fit the 6x9's as I have a brand new set in a box I was going to fit in a plywood window on a previous transit but scrapped the van before I ever did anything and thought I wouldn't ever be able to use the speakers...this gives me some hope as the Ford units start to flap after 19 on the volume.

The 6x9 go in Mark but you do have to cut a bit of the door out. It was a bit tricky to get a neat cut tho. If i remember rightly i could only get three fixings but this didn't seem to bother them. 6x9 three ways mine are, the three ways do stick out a bit more but the panel does go on with a slight bend. The window winder very slightly catches the door when your at 10 oclock to 12 oclock.

Ok well I will have to find the speakers and have a look, I really can't remember if they are 3 way or 2 way or a 3 way with a combined mid and tweeter as they were bought about 4-5 years ago...one of those "ooh those are cheap I will buy them for later on" sort of purchases.
Many years ago I put some speakers in the doors of my Chevette, did it all a bit quick and did the drivers door first cutting the door panel and it all went in fine so I simply measured the same amount forward of the passenger door handle and cut it out only to find that the passenger door handle is not symetrical to the drivers one so I had to cut the inner door panel to get the speaker to fit

har har.....dont you just love it :D one other thing i did while the door card was off was to stick .....wait for it! sticky back flash band! Its far cheaper than buying sound deadening pads from the local car audio shop and i reckon its just as good. Basically covered the whole door with it! :D in fact i didn't stop there i got so carried away i did the whole bloody cab :D roof included. The difference is huge because the panels dont resonate when your on the move, which is a big contribution to the noisy van syndrome and the other big difference is when you shut the door it shuts with a thud rather than a hollow clang That was in my last tranny (god bless her soul  ) i haven't done it in this one but those sunny days are just around the corner :D

Want to link me to that band stuff please...sounds interesting. I have a panel somewhere on my Transit that booms when I reach a set speed and once it has boomed the once it doesn't do it again until I have stopped, done what I have to do and then drive off again. I am thinking it is the rear roof panel to be honest as the previous ouwner had roof bars and heavy ladders on it and was far from careful putting them back on each day so the roof is a little curved at the very back (could be an optical illusion though) but then how often does anyone see or get to see the roof of a Transit ;)

Just the same with my van when I bought it . . loads of sound deadening under the front carpet, under the load area boards, in the sills, in the doors and dust and light grit under the dash . . them builders know how to make a mess :)

Flash band comes on a roll (about 10 meters i think) £15 any builders merchants sell it. Two things to remember wipe the surfaces down first otherwise it wont stick. cutt the flashing to the size's you need then heat each piece up before you stick it on (carefull its sticks like s##t to a blanket)
As regards to the boom your getting, get in the back of the van and push the roof up if you see it seperate from the strengthening cross members then thats where you boom comes from. you can cover the roof panels in nthe back no probs. Only thing that i used to think might be dodgy was the fact that its basicaly sticky tar, so in a fire it would look like an oil refinery has gone up! Thick black smoke, but then again if it catches fire its all over anyway!

Ah ok Flash Band...I just twigged what it is...yes I can get some of that easy.
I will check the rear roof over the weekend and see if it is that, does sound to be likely, but it is difficult to trace noises when you are the only one in the van...I have engine noise coming from I think the passenger side bulkhead to the engine but that is very likely a rubber grommet out of position just as the one my older van had with the clutch cable grommet as I happened to check it out and sure enough it was loose, a few minutes with a screwdriver and wow the noise difference was amazing and I had put up with it for months. I am about to switch the complete dash so access to all the bulkhead grommets will be easy, I might even add some sound deadening material at the same time, though the fire aspect of the flash band in an area that gets warm and with so much electrical cable doesn't sound to be that good an idea so I think I will go the expensive route for that area.
