Immortality

Postby Auntie » Thu Mar 30, 2006 6:37 pm

Here she is, our baby which I would just like to see immortalised in pics on your site before she ventures on to pastures new this Saturday...

As you can see from how grubby she is, the Bloke and I didn't actually agree on whose turn it was to give her a good clean!!

There used to be a middle finger accompanying the angry face, but when we were on hols, the French didn't appreciate our sense of humour and promptly smashed a couple of windows for us.

Image

The rather large dent in the driver's door was done by some stupid pleb who didn't feel the need to tell us he'd just reversed into it; I heard it from indoors

And finally, here she is against a fabulous backdrop after climbing some dizzy heights in the Alps - she done us proud!

Gonna miss her terribly!!

Yeah, I did notice the bit about insurance, but where there's a will there's a way!

The insurance was the final nail in the coffin. Cheapest quotes were all on the wrong side of 700 quid and that was for PLG classification, 8 seats and every other thing that we tried. It has to be said though that she was on the verge of costing us a lot of money with bits and pieces needing replacing, the nasty service involving the cam belt, and some major body work issues.

Also, the AA & RAC wouldn't give us European cover any more 'cos of her age and we do quite a few heavy going miles in France every year. Sooooo, maybe the time is right!? I think that we've made the right decision to upgrade, it's the sensible one for us, but I have to admit to getting very emotionally attached to our nuts and bolts and I'm sure there will be a few tears from me this weekend.

But we get RAC cover, and all of ours (but the big un) are 20 plus. You just pay the suppliment. And that insurance was scary! We pay that for fleet cover (per van) for any driver!! I can't help thinking that trade insurance would have been the way to go.

Auntie tried the RAC with no luck, the AA didn't offer it even with a supplement. Don't you need to be in a trade to get trade insurance? (serious question) sorry for being thick (I am, after all only a 'bloke') :? And in all honesty I fancied a new one :P Whether you like 'em old or new, a transit is a transit. I will miss the old one loads, as Auntie said she's done us proud - over the Alps twice, the Pyrenees 3 or 4 times and 6 or 7 countries in Europe and never missed a beat bless her  But I still look forward to the new one and hope it's just as good :D

I just tried the online order form and for a 20 year old Ford Transit (it didn't ask about minibus or other model at the stage before I would have to pay), for comprehensive annual cover (and this is not cheap, but it is on offer) is £205.77. I know yours isn't 20 years old, but mine is and I have always managed to get cover. I have to say that the if you go to germany (even once a year) it's worth looking for an ADAC office and pay cash (they only take German credit or bank cards) for thier European cover, 77 euros for all of europe, but our AA get a bit sniffy if you are resident in the UK and try to use it here.

The last one. Here she is in her glory days before the aforementioned pleb-induced dent appeared and showing lots of attitude with the finger. I loved that transfer

Blimey, nice an' clean too

What's this ADAC then? It sounds like something pretty interesting and it certainly wouldn't be a hardship going to Germany if this is a qualifying condition.
