My new Transit 120 Pickup

Postby fredrik » Fri Aug 25, 2006 9:00 pm

Here are som pictures of my Transit 120 Pickup that I bought last Tuesday. It's in really good condition, seems not to have been welded anywhere.
I will use the cabin for my -79 recovery truck, it's not possible to save it in any other way.

Wonder if the Stig from Top Gear has been a previous owner :?:

Even the doorsill and the step is in good condition, the doors are however a bit rusted and will probably not be used.

Swedish power :) Volvo B20 engine and M40 manual transmission is fitted into the pickup, works OK as it seems.

Thanks :D
It will save me a lot of work getting my recovery truck back together, otherwise it would not have been cut to pieces.

the volvo B18 and B20 motors are similiar in layout to a pushrod ford as far as I remember...It's a more logical choice than it first appears

It's relly common to put a volvo engine in Transits here in Sweden, especially in the older models that had V4 engines.

I'm not giving up on the recovery truck, I'm just not gonna use the original cabin any more, I will use this one instead.

I'm back!
Sorry for being gone for a whole month, but I've been working a lot.
However I have started to dismantle the 120 pickup and trying to figure out how co cut the cabin from the rear of the frame and putting it on the recovery truck.

I have to make some kind of welded frame that will insure that the truck will be straight after putting pieces together. Don't know how to do it yet but somehow it will be solved.

I've bought two more Transits last weekend, one 120 -83 pickup with the bigger cabin (dual cab ??) and single rear wheels and a 120 -89 pickup. Both are in quite bad condition and will be used as spareparts. Here is one bad picture of the -89 pickup, more pictures will come soon.

And yes, I'm sorry for driving a VW, but it's only temporary

See you soon / Fredrik

No I don't think so, it will need much more work and the dual cab will make it longer so a new registration will be needed. I think I'll stick with the plan and use the 120 pickup cabin as planned.
