Insurance on camper

Postby naartjie » Thu Dec 12, 2013 8:10 pm

I'm about to buy a Transit that is registered with the current owner as a camper van. I'm not sure if this is an advantage from an insurance point of view. I've been getting quotes online and they are insane. Churchills quoted £2.5k for third party and the van is only worth £800! And Tesco wasn't much cheaper. I'm now waiting for Swinton, Adrian Flux to call me back tomorrow with quotes. The van is a 1997 model. Any pointers on insurance at all? If it's registered as a camper, do I have to insure it as that?

Swinton have a division dealing with this - think they are called Hi-way. Tell them its a self built camper and it states motorhome on v5.I got a really good deal with them :D my other van is insured with Swinton but my premium is scandalous ! Tell them the vehicle is worth 1200 -1500 quid as well  Leisure vehicles should be cheaper to insure the thing that will change that if your using it for commuting to work. If I can be any more help just pm me :)

I went with Adrian flux broker.

Was 26 when it started.

Fully comp + cover for europe for full year, windscreen cover, legal etc + i am covered for commute, no breakdown though.

Am limited to 10,000 miles though but not that bothered - never did more than that in my last van.
