new mk 7 transit

newbie here looking for some advise

story starts like this
bought my first van three and half years ago swb med roof 125 tdci moondust silver with exec pack, used this van as a mobile workshop and racked up 105 000 miles in it in just under 3 years loved the van but out grew it

now running a mwb merc splinter 311 ex transco it has the built in compressor what i use a lot bought the van to see how much i would like the built in kit and it is good but the rest of the van is not also burning lots of white diesel for compressor is no fun so have thought about another compressor solution and it will require the same size van the sprinter is a little bigger than i need now due to kit being underneath but new solution will be inside

the sprinter gets between 17 and 22 mpg this is without any compressor running and its all motorway work (i do work on bridges) i like to go quick but 85 - 90 on the motorway is where i am happy

the short transit used to return 32 to 36 mpg only doing worse when developed a fault ford took ages to diagnose and fix

so i am looking at a special order (can get some quite good terms) new transit 140 lwb high top with some goodies (glx, cruise, full folding rear doors etc )

my only worry is that i will get poor mpg from this van and if i spend a fortune on it i wont be able to just swap it, if i were getting 28 to 30 that would be ok i understand i am getting a bigger van on rear drive to my last ford so wont be quite as good

my question is what do you guys get from a similar spec van i carry usualy about 1000kg of tools meaning a few day test is out of the question as would take so long to swap in out

also looking for advise on options you have got on mk 7s and would you recomend them or not

all help appresiated

thanks in antisipation (and sorry for such a long read)

:) mate welcome
personaly i would go for the transit ,do you realy need the 140ps?????? as a slightly smaller engine output will prbly be better on fuel and still go along well on the motorway!

just loved the power of the 125 so fancy a 140

may have to look at front driver again and get the 130 maybe try and re organise my stuff so i could manage with a medium wheelbase that would be better on juice but if 28 - 30 is acheavable with cruise set at 80- 85 with the rwd that would be what i went for
