Urgent help required please

Postby Hooch » Mon Jun 25, 2007 8:34 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm interested in buying a 1996 transit, but after viewing it I noticed that when the van is started there's water (condensation?) and an amount of oil coming from the exhaust drippin gonto th efloor (not loads but a little). Now the owner assures me that it's simply due to the fact that the van has been sitting there for a few weeks but I'm no expert and need a little help before I part with my money.

Cheers guys.

Sounds okay to me, you sure it's oil and not soot?

It looks like oil as it has a rainbow effect on the water that's coming from the exhaust. Also, there's white smoke coming out on start up but I presume this is just condensation? I've never owned a diesel so I've no idea what is normal and what's not.

Well white smoke is unburnt diesel so that's probably what it is, how much is the van?

Take it for a good burn and look out for smoke.

Update; took the van for a spin and it just didn't feel right, gear changes, clutch etc etc so I left it.

Thanks again for your help.

I know you walked away, but at that price I would have gone for it.

Fool. If it doesn't feel right then it probably isn't. Could spend loads repairing it. Not exactly as if there aren't many of them around. Each to their own though.
