DM VANS, LITTLE KINGSHILL, GREAT MISSENDEN.

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.dmvans.co.uk

I bought my Mk 7 Transit from them this February. It came with a host of problems (I know, I should have been a hundred times more suspicious), and now has been diagnosed with an unfixable faulty piston ring casing black smoke and an oil leak.

The rings on one piston are fractured, letting exhaust gasses out into the sump. This pressurises the oil so much it is forced out through gaskets, and the reduced pressure in the cylinder causes reduced combustion of the diesel, so pumping out black smoke.

It can't be fixed because of the way the engine is manufactured. The only cure is a new engine or a new van.

Karst, I disagree with your submission that the problem you indicated can't be fixed. Are you saying the rings can't be replaced or they wear too soon after replacement? I don't believe any vehicle is a mechanical failure up to the point that you cannot replace its piston or piston rings. Here in Nigeria (poor and technically backward as we are), at least as far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as replace an engine with another just because it rings or pistons fail.

Hi Abiolayunis

When I say "fixed", I mean to the level demanded here. This problem is deep in the engine, and they are manufactured in a way that makes them a "sealed unit", if you break it all open the results are not worth the expense/effort, they are not good enough for our demands here, I don't even know if the emissions will be brought below the legal limit. The expense and risk of it all is not worth it.
