MK2 advice

Postby Knulen » Mon Feb 27, 2023 10:45 pm

I'm looking for some advice, I've found a Ford Transit MK2 (1980) which I'm thinking of buying. It has a 2.0 OHC 87HP engine. What are the weak spots of this car? What do I need to look out for when buying a MK2. I guess there are a lot of places where rust can occur or some other problematic issues or expensive parts.

Rust is the main thing all the usual places if body ok just general service items even if it has a good recent service history I’d be giving it a full service cambelt water pump do the valve clearance I would change the oil spray bar for the camshaft hopefully parts are not to hard to find .

What are the usual places for rust on a MK2?

And how easy/difficult are parts to be found in the Netherlands?

rear arches, under the windscreen, door steps, rear valence, cab floor/inner arch, top rail where the outer wing joins the inner but TBH by now everywhere is suspect, chassis (esp spring hangers) , radiator support, bonnet hinge mounts ect
