VW LT 35 TDI, AGAINST TRANSIT 100 SWB.

Postby hardgrafter » Mon Mar 02, 2009 4:12 pm

Have been using a 02 VW LT35 SWB 95 BHP remapped to 120 for a month now and grown quite fond it.

Compaired to my 03 Tranny 100PS SWB FWD remapped to 125, I find the VW handles better, carries weight better and has a stronger 5 cylinder engine, don't get me wrong i still prefer the way the Tranny drives (despite the understeer!) and it's comfort and refinement levels are supierior.

Want to keep both but one has to go! and being this is a TRANSIT forum i don't want to start a riot  by slating them that is not my intention.

My question is do the RWD MK6 Transits drive as well as the FWDs, and carry weight and handle as well as the VW (do like a bit of sideways action :D )

Average load is around 600kg, lots of motorways and twisty B roads.

Brother has a 2003 LT 35 158HP, but since the window business went bang, he's using the Mk5 Transit TD
The Lt is faster and quieter, but as far as bullet proof cheap motoring is concerned you just can't beat the Smiley
New injectors and tank on the LT was nearly 2 grand
Oh and the body on the smilie is in better nick believe it or not

We used to have some of these at work, MWB LT46's I think, but they weren't popular, they had them as they could get a quicker delivery than the 4.2/4.6 tonne sprinter, do they still use VW engines in the Crafter?

hi i have a 17 seat transit twin wheel mini bus 125 hp rwd 53 plate at the moment,i used to have a twin wheel lt 46 1998 120 hp i think ,17 seater never let me down parts were on par with my present transit never had starting problems like i do with the transit very torquey engine pulled better from low down ,but all said and done i prefer the look and drive of my transit and is better on fuel . Im not badge biased and will buy within my budget the best motor for the job ,if money was no object i would buy the new twin wheel lt grafter i drove one and it is one hell of a bit of kit even compared to the mk7 twin wheeler which i was driving this weekend for a local travel company ,sorry if this offends transit fans good luck with your choice ,

Hey guys like i said i am not slagging the blue oval! infact quite the opposite. No other van i have drove is as comfy and refined as the Ford.

It's that feeling of strengh reliability and sure footedness you get from the German offering i find appealing.

If the rwd MK6 is as good i will get one, with you on the MK5 though apart from the rust issues must be the best van ever made?
