New guy needing advice please

Postby morpheus20170 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 11:06 pm

I have been thinking for a while now about whether to get or rent a van to take my Honda CBR600RR-07 for more track days this year and further afield than I could ride as it isn't the most comfortable bike on long journeys but that is not why I bought it.
There are many rental firms with either SWB Transits or the smaller Ford Van, not sure what it is called but to get to some track days they want you there for 8am which means picking up the van the evening before and paying for it for another day without using it.

Can you please advise me on the size that I would need, I am not too bothered about sleeping in it but I'm not sure whether a sportsbike with a ramp, tools, etc will fit in the smaller Ford Van, I think it might be Connect?
If not then I think it would be the SWB.
I've looked on E-Bay and Autotrader and there are a lot out there, high mileage, but I'm not sure what the different numbers mean.
I would most likely be using it 6 times a year at first maybe more with trips abroad and other things, I am not too sure whether there is certain places to go for insurance on vans.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Paul

Hi there here are some ideas

For me SWB is the best way to go or bigger but not Connect van.
Insurance like with anything try as many as u can and u will get a better deal .
To rent every time will work out maybe a bit less but the trouble in that might put u off so better just to get a cheap van and as u can see they very cheap currently because of the market.

If u find something nice just ask the forum guys and they can tell u more about a van based on its registration number etc. We hope u join the club :)

Dimensions are as follows in inches:
Height: 43.5
Length: 79.1
Width: 27.0
Can someone please give me the storage dimensions for both a Connect van and SWB Transit?

Many thanks for all of your help

I've seen people put trials/sports bikes in small vans like the connect, looks a tight squeze, I've never driven one so no idea on the actual dimensions but you'll find them on the Ford site.

A SWB med roof transit will carry almost any motorbike, a low roof slightly less. The load length on a SWB is around 2.4-2.5m depending on what mk it is.

So basically a SWB low roof transit will do the job, and a connect might aswell.

If you're not gonna use it much then hiring van or van+driver will be the cheaper option buy you obivously lose some of the convenience

I've looked on E-Bay and Autotrader and there are a lot out there, high mileage, but I'm not sure what the different numbers mean.

They generally relate to the engine output and gross weight, for example on the mk6+7 75T260 means it's 75ps and has a gross weight of around 2600kg
