Pinto Luton, should I buy it?

Postby Carltina » Tue Mar 24, 2009 11:42 pm

Hi, all just joined. Life long Ford fan.
Just seen a luton on internet, very old 1991 but mint, no rust, , no wear in cab, nothing. Mileage claimed 32k, no history but can't be far off, has tax and test till end July.

Can I get all relevant parts etc eg king pins?
I've been told these are good with the excellent pinto BUT very slow and thirsty 70mph empty only 45mph fully loaded! 22mpg empty, 18 fully loaded.
It doesn't have a tail lift so no pianos but I know that's good for my payload and I'm thinking it'll pay for itself in removals esp as I live on a main road if I put sign writing on it.

Any thoughts?
Is such an old luton worth it if the condition is good on a petrol engine?

Thanks
Carl

if you only intend to do local deliveries then petrol really isnt a consideration, however if you intend doing long distance removals the mpg will kill it
if you get 70 mph out of it then ring guiness book of records up
it sounds a nice truck ,give it a good looksee all over and if you think it will make you money then get it bought
i wouldnt overly worry about king pins unless the steering is obviously tight and they need doing soonest
tis eye leclair

Thanks mate.

Yes I thought 70 sounded a bit optimistic! That was the memory of the manager of a rental place that had those exact vans when new so 15-18 yrs ago. I suppose 60 is probably right empty. It does have an aerodynamic front, not the awful flat type.

Thanks, well if it hasn't sold by Sat when I get to view it, I may well take it. It must have been kept indoors in a furniture warehouse or something.
