97 transit van purchase

Postby mxlemming » Thu Jun 25, 2009 1:04 pm

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, and the transit van world, getting into it for a month long road trip round France biking. If/when this happens I'll upload any pictures of transit conversion to pseudo camper van.....
Currently looking at this:
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/ww ... yword=Ford

but am aware there may be better routes to go down....
Is it worth the £1300 asked? Do any of you far more knowledgable people see anything likely wrong? We spoke to the guy selling it and he seemed confident in the van, added the following...
-asked if it drove alright - "no mechanical problems whatsoever".
-prev. owner was a mechanic, therefore no service history.
-MOTd in feb
-runs fine. he reckoned it would be fine up mountains - "not fast, but these are v. sturdy engines"
-"be realistic, its a 10 year old van, but i've seen lots of vans with worse wear than this".

Cheers for any help!

Its about its money to be fair IF its as mechanically good as he says!

If you go and look at it just check underneath for rot, especially the rear crossmember and chassis.

IMO I bought my old MK5 (below) exactly the same way via a mechanic & with no history & it did last me ages & was a damn good workhorse but £1300 is "still" a bit steep

Put the details through etis for more info

Thanks for the input guys. Real help. We're checking it out.

What would you say is a fair price then? I really have no idea...
