What's the reason that you can't use the number on the VIN plate? ............... and a smiley is a Mk5 BTW

Oh I see, you want to check the number on the plates against the stamped number

It is in the drivers footwell, just up from the step on the vertical part, and in the middle. There may be a plastic cover over the number but there isn't on mine :D

hello and thank you for your replys, about my question, i went into the ford dealers this morning and asked about the nummber not being in the drivers step, and i had the full details of the truck, they gave me 2 possible answers,,1 the truck could of been in accident that side and the foot well replaced with out a stamped foot well as this is a very expensive replacment from fords compared to after market pattern part, 2,and at around year 2000, ford indeed started to put mk5 smiley fronted transit the chassis numbers on the dash board instead of the foot well, they also said it depended on where it was made, rgds fatboy
