Mk4 Transit Models

Postby Ked » Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:22 pm

Hi

I'm looking to buy a Mk4 to convert to a camper.

The van should:

cruise at 70mph easily, and go up to 90mph without strain.
Be Long wheel base, high top
Ideally return more than 40mpg on a long motorway journey.

I am looking at Mk4 100 TD LWB Hi-top Custom.

I have been told to avoid 150'sand 190's.

What are your thoughts?

Cheers

You want a Mk6 then.

Mk6 sounds nice.

HOWEVER:

I can spend about £1-1500on the van. Dun care if it needs work, long as it is mechanically sound. I can sort out all the rust and what not.

You need to forget the bit about not struggling to do 90 then and probably the 40 MPG as well, maybe even the cruising at 70 easily.

My father has a 100PS TD Mk4 LWB Hi Top custom. Cruises at 70 easy and goes up to 90 easy. His van does 70mph up a 1 in 4 hill, mile long. (Air balloon hill in gloucester)

Howedver, these vans seem to be rare as rocking horse sh*t. Is there anything thatcomes close within the price range?
