How to get van checked out

Hi, folks,

I’m nearer to getting a Transit around the T260/280 size, with possibility to convert to a basic camper so an empty camper would do (Will need van empty to help move etc first). However although my aim is to learn how to service and do basic repairs (to start with) in the meantime how can I get someone to get a van checked out for it being mechanical sound or a guide to cost of sorting issues out? I live in Skeg at present but hope to move to North B'ham/Midlands area.
