What to look for and how much?

Postby seand » Wed Sep 08, 2010 6:25 pm

Hi

New here as you can see from my post count

So will shortly be looking for one of these, swb, low or mid roof, diesel model, top hinged rear door preferred, and would appreciate some specifics to this model to look for when viewing. Just got to sell my 88 VW T25 camper first

Also appreciate some idea on prices, if possible :|

Seen loads for sale on various sites, some have appeared to be ok on paper and poss worth viewing, but found this site and thought it worth asking before viewing any. Is FSH amust? Mileages to avoid? Turbo/non-turbo? et etc

There's a Mk 5 on here at the mo for £1000. Looks ok rust wise, but I reckon it's a bit overpriced still as it's lacking service history and short tax/MOT.

I could go up to £2000 for the right vehicle, but would prefer to keep it around the £1000-£1500 mark.

I'm in East Midlands area.

Thanks

Sean

Mechanicals on these really aren't a problem, you can get an engine and box for around £150 if you really had to. The main problem with these is rust.

rust is a big problem mate, look at spring hangers, inner sills, rear quarter inner sills, door step and inner and it wouldnt hurt to take the plastic step out and check, front arch inner and rear doors, front doors at the bottem on the inside edge and check the chassi, i have taken a magnet with me befor just to make sure the arches arnt made out of filler as this can cause a lot of work later on, hope this helps
