H Reg - 2.4D Mini Bus Transit

Hiya Folks

I'm going to look at a H Reg 2.4D Mini Bus / Conversion to Camper Transit tomorrow.
I dont know any more information than that so I do not think its possible really to get any information on that BUT,
MOT till July, and Taxed till December, cost him £200 for a year tax (if that helps).

I'm after any warnings of H Reg's or what to look at or out for.
What engine do you reckon and average mpg with these?
what mileage would you consider thraped?

I use 56k Dial up internet (live out in the sticks) so whilst I have looked around the forums and I have done a little research I cannot look at picture heavy threads. So any links please could you quote them to save the dire loading speeds.

Are you talking about an H reg suffix 1970, or H reg prefix 1990

Hahaha, I dont think its the 70's one. I think the chap would of told me it was an old one when I asked about it. Or at least I hope! If its 70's I doubt it will be worth having. So I hope/think its the 90's one.

Ok, the 90's one will be a 2.5 Di Diesel engine, and there are many on here which have done over 250k miles. Your main worry on a 20 year old Transit will be rust

Alright brilliant, fair comment. I'll be looking at the rust with my old man. (I've printed off a list where to look from another thread). He said "thats obvious" but.. gotta start somewhere right!

Any threads you know of containing good information on a 2.5 Di engine, what to sonsider, mpgs and anything I may have overlooked?

My Dad asks:
"Is an engine block with a pump, better than an engine block with a pump and a turbo?"
"miles, robost?"

The Di is a solid dependable engine which will give good service with minimal looking after, BUT, the oil needs to have been kept clean and topped up, and the timing belt needs changing at 50k or 5 years, or preferably sooner.
If the engine looks neglected as well as the van, then walk away, if the engine and body look as if someone has looked after them, then the van is probably worth a punt!
