Buying a 2.4 diesel crewcab truck

Hi there in the process of looking at the 2.4 ltr diesel crew cab trucks am looking at anything 2005 and up. Just wondering if they are powerful enough to be carrying alot of wieght on the tray with such a small motor as i noticed they also have the same motor in the vans. Also is there a model thats much better than another ie:2005 or 2007...thanx
