Looking to buy advice needed

Postby Ross_120SWB » Wed Dec 29, 2010 11:04 pm

Hi all,

Hope you all had a good Christmas, I am looking at uprgrading my current mk5 swb transit for a mk6 mwb 2.4TD.

Any advice on things to look for when viewing vans, such as at what kind of mileage do problems arise are there any common issues to look out far. Are there any potentail big bills in the pipline such as cambelt replacement?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ross

No belt on these :D
But see if you can start the van from cold after an overnight stop and listen for timing chain rattle for the first few seconds (indicates it will need attn. soon)

Look out for uneven clutch characteristics, indicating possible flywheel failure :!:

Should pull well, as it's a turbo :!: If it doesn't, walk away :!:

Worn brake discs would almost certainly mean new front bearings too :!:

It's a Transit, so check for rust and or rust repairs

Ford Transit 120 TDI EPIC Automatic. 0-60 in a leisurely and smooth 12.7 seconds and 1/4 mile in 19.1 seconds. Now where's all these faster? manual Di s?
