yeah the 2.0 duratorque is a solid engine, better than the 2.4, allthough theres obviously more stress on the 2.4's, bigger bore and longer stroke.
The Dmf is just the same as any other DMF or clutch, you can get trevor revvers with 10k on a new car and need a new clutch, or you can get a sensible driver with same clutch and do 200k easy, the DMF is just an extension of the clutch. Expense is the only downside, which makes people think they are bad.
The tdci fuel system does need to be looked after, good fuel, fuel filter changes, and check water drain, when its right its great, but again because of cost its a big downside, tdcis have been known to cover many miles without repair, they also are controlled to finer tolerences so cause problems were other traditional diesel fuel sytems would just run with slight lack of power and youd never know.
Ive had a few tdci mondeos, the best one an ex taxi with 220k and original injectors and pump, got it cheap as 1 of injectors had failed.
just got an early TDDI mondeo, and very pleased with it, plenty of power, only downside is slightly noisier. But more than makes up as its the very reliable TDDI, thats why i got it nothinng to worry about.
the 75ps/85ps/100ps transits are all fwd 2.0 tddi duratorques and very good.
the 125ps 2.0 duratorque is a tdci, which if not mainted can give problems.
or if you want to just run a cheap vehicle and not bothered about comfort, noise, performance MPG then get a mk5
