Should I buy a Mk6 Tourneo 125 PS...?

Postby Motovan » Sun Feb 06, 2011 8:34 pm

Hi Folks,

As I brielfly posted in the Welcome section, I would like to sell my car (Alfa) and sell my Mk5 190 LWB Transit to get a 8-9 seater 125 PS '04-'06 Tourneo to replace them both.

I currently use my Alfa for long distances travelling for work and the van gets used for transporting bikes and materials and general light work.

In theory the Tourneo sounds ideal, so what I would like to know is whether the Tourneo would be ok for long distance driving (reliability, motorway driving, mpg (not too worried about that), handling etc and if there any things I should be aware of.

I guess they get used a lot for Airport transfers, taxis, large families etc.

Is there anyone who could advise on this or someone who has or had one who has some info?

Thanks,
Motovan

Hi Thanks for the reply.

Yep, pretty much like yours then !

I just want to know if they are suitable for motorway use (or are they revving the spuds out of the engine to do 80mph? - Abroad... Obviousy !!) I use my '98 190 LWB quite often and it's great locally but horrendous in traffic due the the first gear judder when letting the clutch out and I hear "RAAAAAAGH" in my ears for three days afterwards if I use it on the motorways for more than an hour. But having said that it's comfy (with its Top Spec arm rest seat and dash clock) and it will always get there in then end.

So now I'm looking at dark coloured GLX Tourneos, but need a fellow Tourne-owner to advise on their suitability for my needs.

Essentially, are they any good for higher speeds & longer distances and will it get me where I want to go and back again?

Cheers,

Motovan.

yes they are,
the 125bhp is defo a 4.23 ratio and will do 83mph +- @ 3000rpm
have you got a reg, and i can check it for spec.
the dmf will only last about 100.000 miles.

you wont need to worry about engine noise with a tdci, if you went for ther 100ps tddi tourneo then it would be adifferent story.
When i first put my 125tdci engine in, i had the 4.53 ratio gearbox and it was still very good at 80mph, and even at top speed of 115mph was only slight engine noise.
Super smooth running engine.

Thanks for advice guys.... I bought a 2005 Mk6 GLX Tourneo in Grey.

It's seems to be ideal for what I want.

I wasn't too keen on the Walnut Dash Trim stick on panels so I covered them with some Carbon Film which I think looks a little better. It takes a bit of time to stick it on, trim it and heat it around the corners etc but well worth the effort.

Only thing is it seems the rear triple seat is quick release and the front (middle) triple seat is bolted, whereas I was expecting both to be quick release. I guess this was an option when new?

Cheers,

Pad.

So, tell me about the "Chip my Ride" then psv-hgv-flt...... Power gain vs economy loss, cost & reliability etc....

Anyone got any decent pics of the interiors on the GLX torneo?

To answer the OP's question I think it would be the ideal van for you.

Just be sure to check the gear ratio. mine is 5.13  not good!!!

Yep, It's a 4.23 Final Drive so good on motorways.

Haven't driven it much as working away, but happy with it so far. (Also dash wooden trim is now carbon covered).

Interior pics.... (assuming the link works)

(I will probably get some Calibre Tour 18" wheels mainly as they are suitable for carrying the weight and only 7.5" wide rather than 8" of other similarly priced ones which stick out a bit further and I'm not paying silly money for some plastic arches....)

Wooden dash looks wrong in anything newer then 1969.

I like the standard 5 spoke diamond cuts wheels the tourneos came with. Only thing with 18"s is tyre price a loaded transit will eat them for breakfast if your doing a lot of miles!!! Transit sport anyone?
