I know a hell of a lot more people with transits and dont have any complaints, sure they breakdown nothing is unbreakable.
But not as often that would be a HAssle.

I know 3 people who had the vivaficstar, one was from brandnew, 140ps dci 6speed, he had it at vauxhall loads uner warrantee but still a pain when its your work vehicle.
after 2 years when warrentee ran out traded it in for a mk7 140ps and hasnt had a single problem in 3 yeaRS, HE SAID THE
vivaficstar was slightly quicker but only cos the tranny has a 100mph limiter

Another mate bought an absolute dog of a van 55reg 100ps dci 6speed, 100k on it needed full respray so a little bit cheaper, but since owning hes had everytghing apart from the block and water pump replaced   and thats no exaggeration, he said if anything else goes hes going to get rid and get a mk7, then his turbo went  and he still has the van  probably cos he has 7k in a 3k van now
i drove the van back when he bought it, and wasnt very impressed by it comparing it to my 05 100ps mk6.

Another plumber i know has spent 2.5k on his 54reg 60k vivaficstar in the last year and its still cutting out just recently  he was tempted by my offer of £1200 to rid him of his missery the other day

Theres only one reason the has always been more than twice as many transits on the road than any other commercial vehicle(thats a fact).
Its because its far superior overall, they are the most adaptable, cheapest to run and maintain, nicest looking, easiest, nicest to drive
WELL SAID FORD BY FAR :D :D :D

Purchased a Mk6 3 years ago with 120k on the clock, little service history but it was fairly cheap.

Sailed through 3 MOT's so far, not a single problem with it until recently. Had to change the belt tensioner as the belt was slipping slightly. Oh, and had to buy 2 new tyres for front. Tut tut, the hardships of running Mk6's hey!?!?!

My previous van before this was a Mk5. That sailed through 4 MOT's until the rust started to get out of control.

Transit's FTW :)

I am only aware of 2 general issues on the mk6/7 transits... (and im not sure which models/engines etc are affected the worst.

The FWD ones can have issues with the gearstick selection cables and the egrs are weak (on the mk6s these can just be disconnected - but it can't be done on the mk7)

heres my opinion. i have a mk6 which has 165745 miles on. it gets serviced every 3-6 months due to mileage. I work on fords, renaults, nissan, ldvs,vw, mercs and vauxhall vans. I have to say the best vans are the fords! These vans are hire vans and get given some stick. mk7 are good, they drive well and if you op for a well spec they come kitted. mk6 vans are great. fwd esp. the 75ps is a little weak but the 85 and 100 are muh better.

merc vans and vw vans are probably the best. if i were you id buy anything that fits your size of your van. drive it sensibly and it'll last forever as long as its not a fiat or something. i had a trafic 2.5 140 had no problems with it but im led to believe the dont like track rod ends but thats all i ever changed on it in 30k from 50 to 80k then sold it regret it everyday
