Need another van

Postby MWOOLY10 » Fri Jan 11, 2013 11:35 pm

Hello everyone, not posted on here for some time since i last had a transit.

I went to the dark side and bought an 06 Fiat Ducato SWB 2.0 JTD, which has now covered 279,000 miles :) Couple of months ago the alternator cable snapped and ever since it has played up, engines starts clicking and then cuts out when i try to accelerate to hard, so takes me forever to get to 70/80 and now recently engine light comes on while driving down the motorway and then just cuts out on me :(

So time for another van. Now i like the Ducato/Boxer/Relay MWB/LWB vans and i have seen a few 04/06 ones with the (apparently good economy) 2.2 HDi engines, they have done around 100k so still bearly ran in. and i have also seen a Transit 06 350 135ps LWB.

Now i know your all going to say the transit lol but i would be grateful if some people that have/had one could give me some info like good and bad points. My main concern with having a bigger van (which i do need and have done for some time with my SWB being over weight most of the time) is the MPG, how much do most get out of theirs.

I travel all over the country up and down the motorway generally its loaded going out and empty coming back. I am well used to be heavy footed, but got used to driving normally between 70/80 for the last few months so hopefully that will continue.

Any info most grateful

Thanks Mike
Cheers Mike

Anyone?

With my Ducato its a 70 ltr tank and from full to empty i can generally get 430/450 ish miles nearer 500 if drove slowly  Which is the same as when i bought it even after all the hammering its had. If the bigger engines are nearly as good then that will do for me.

Cheers for the reply :)

I know the transit has an 80 ltr tank but even still i would think driving up and down the motorway would be as good on fuel if not a little better then as the van i have now ..

Well ideally i didnt really want another van but needs must its getting annoying cutting out doing 75 on the motorway

I was either going to go for a cheaper one for around 2/3k, or i could probably go for one for around 4/5k on finance, both including the dreaded of course, unless i find one without vat.

not a great budget but as like most people work has slowed down since the recession hit otherwise i would of gone and bought another new van.

Doing 35/50k a year i doubt an older van would take doing my job for very long so decided to spend a little more.. and go for something bigger that would take the weight i carry a litle better
