Advice on transit ambulance please

I'm new to the world of transits and am hoping to get a transit ambulance. There is one on e-bay that I ahve been looking at but I wanted to find out more about the year and model. It is 1990 Transit mountain range... and am bit worried about fact it is converted to LPG...any comments?

Well someone commented that it would run OK until LPG ran out and it wouldn't run well on petrol...also that the engine wouldn't last long. I guess I'm also concerned about it being a home LPG conversion..

What sort of weight is your mountain ambulance? We are also worried when this big girl is fully loaded she will be over 3.5MT? WOuld a 2LT engine be enough to get us along the motorway at a decent rate of knots (well 70 mph!!!)

i think the 2.0 will be pushed to do 70 but i think it would do it, for econimy reasons i'd have thought a 60mph speed would be more suitable

as for the weight - i cant see it being over 3.5t even fully loaded - most big moterhomes have the same weight limit and there fine

Thanks Luke - have you any niggly things that your mountain ambulance has that I should look out for? Is yours fully converted? I ahven't some across them before. Would you be able to tell me what you paid for yours? Sorry to be so nosey!

mine isnt in the same condition as that one (mine is alot worse ) and i paid a lot less and its not converted at all - mountains were probly the most popular ambilances theres loads about

personally - i think £950 is a touch high for that one, i'd want to pay less - but dont go loosing it on my account

there isnt many of this type around we had them local to us but they are big and clumsy ,if you dont mind that then it will be ok! she will be heavey and the 2ltr will be pushed to sit at 70mph all the time but will run ok!

as luke says the powersteering is rare this will help you move the old girl, £950 is abit high they do go cheaper but its got the camping stuff allready in!

Wasn't me who won! It was too far away for us to look at practically. We are in somerset... but are still looking for the right old ambulance/camper... so if anyone knows of one lurking around do let me know!!

Bizzarely I am the winner of this auction and was hoping to find out a little more about the beast. (Good to hear I've paid over the odds!)

Does anybody know who did the original conversion (Westfalia etc)?

When insuring it does the fact it is fitted with LPG, cooking stove and fridge make any difference - do I need to declare this?

Can anyone recommend any good insurance firms?

dont worry what you pay mate - it's what you spend on it that matters
mountain is the origanal ambilance conversion - i dont know about the camper part

look at mine purchase price £500 pimping costs £3000+ and still not finished
