which transit?? advice needed......

hello all.
i am looking to buy a transit to take my bike ( a triumph tiger ) camping gear, wife, and all the stuff for holidays.!!!
i have had a test drive in a short wheel base semi hi top 2.5 di 1998 and was disappointed at the slow acceleration and i only managed to get 60 on a flat straight road... i want something that will at least do 70 or better on the motorway and be able to go uphill at a decent speed and pull away from junctions at a fair lick.. well better than the unimog i drive at work does any way.!!!!
in time we will want to go touring in europe as well as here so thats all i want it for..
oh and i have about 3.000 to spend
i have picked up a lot from the forum but after the test drive i decided that i needed some advice...

I would be diappointed if I only got 60 out of a lightly loaded panel van. What gearbox does it have? We get 70 out of our huge Mk2 luton, fully loaded. Ok, sometimes, but it is carrying something the size of a detatched garage.....
