Hi all.new to the forum - great site

I have owned a few transits in the past (ex BT S and T plates).
Baby came along so had a car for a few years (well I say car it was a ctroen berlingo!).
Have decided that life is shallow and meaningless without a transit.
Havent had anything to do with the new generation of Transits (2002 on)
I just want a simple basic model - doesnt have to be turbo or anything, as long as I can sit on the motorway at 70 - thats fine.
I will get a short wheel base low roof.
But I don't know the difference between the models (ie 280, 350, front wheel drive rear drive etc etc)
What is a basic, mechanically solid Transit model?
Does anyone know what BT vans are likely to be?
I have got about 6k to spend so I can probably get quite a nice BT van.
One more question. I will need to put seats in the back.(preferably removable)
Has anyone experience of this?
Have new transits already got mounting bolts in the rear ready to accept Ford seats?. The seats I have found online seem to have mounting plates and strengtheners. I would prefer to pay more money to get good spec seats as I will have the baby seat on the rear seats.
I also want removable seats as I can take them out for the mot - and as long as I don't get pulled I wont have to inform the insurance company! or am I being stupid...

The earlier MK6 exBT ones tended to be the 75PS T300 front wheel drive

Can't answer the seat questions though

Best tell the insurance just incase something happens :shock:

Are you going to put 2nd row windows in :?:

Thanks for replying.

Is the " 75PS T300 front wheel drive" you mentioned a pretty bog standard model? if so that is all i want. Is the mark 6 a good one to go for?
And what does the 75 PS stand for?
I wasnt going to put windows in the back because im sure insurance companies would start getting nervous, But I dont think I need to inform them If I put removable/temporary seats in.
I spoke to an mot inspector last week, he said that if the seats are not in the van during the MOT they wont even ask about them - even if they can see the mounting plates on the floor..

When I say that I have got around 6k to spend.
I have seen many a transit for this money that just look - knackered.
High mileage, the interior looks like the dog has been chewing it.

The 75PS (engine power output, like HP) is the bog standard engine

but also seems to be a very good unit in so much as it doesn't have a dual mass flywheel that seems to be an expensive let down on more powerful variants

Also no intercooler to split

Others on here with this engine are well pleased with it, but some also admit that they could do with a bit more power at times :!:

There are alot of scruffy vans out there

so you're right to look out for an exBT van, as they are usually well serviced, low mileage and "clean"

How about a "double cabin" that has the 2nd row of windows and seats in already :?:

Hi andy.

Looks like it's a bt 75 for me then.
I looked at a few double cabin vans on auto trader.
They all had high mileages - suppose they have been carrying workers around.
What is the next engine spec up from 75, and does it have this dual mass flywheel thingy?
This will be my only vehicle so I want it to be quite clean and tidy

After the 75PS I think they all have the DMF

The 75PS was replaced by the 85PS as the lowest output.

There's also the 100PS FWD. and the 125PS TDCI which is very quiet running, thanks to the common rail replacing the dreadful injector pump :!:

Have you thought of a brand spanking new one :?:

6K is a very healthy deposit :!:

Thought of one, but not reality im afraid.

I looked at a few second hand vans at a ford commercial center a few days ago.7 grand + vat for a van with 90k no way.

My boss bought a new Toyota Powervan last week.£13,000 but it's a nice van. just a bit too small, and it's only got a lap belt in the middle seat - no good for baby.
I will be happy with a bt transit, so avoid dual mass and go for common rail?
