Rust:
After having repaired 12 of this shape vans and chassis cabs, I have noticed that the most common points that needed welding are:
The front crossmember behind the front bumper,
The bottom of the rear crossmember on the vans,
The top plate on the propshaft center bearing support on chassis cabs
The inner and outer sills behind the rear axel on the vans

If the van has not been panelled inside check the load floor above where it joins to the chassis rails as the join under the floor seems to trap water and rot the floor from underneath.

Wiring:
on the diesels the most common fault i have found is the wiring connector for the water in fuel sensor (located in the bottom of the fuel filter assembly) insulation breaking down and the wiring intermittently shorting and blowing the reverse and break light fuse, Even if the sensor is not fitted this connector is often present in the engine loom.

another area on mk3/4 is the step under the plastic mainly on drivers side as that gets most use.and water sits underneath and corrods floor and inner and outer sills.easy to pull up plastic step to check.

usually the seats, tyres and headlining dont get attacked by the metal moth, but always check them for water damage
