ex-BT vans

Postby vanidiot » Wed Sep 12, 2007 11:42 am

Hello - as my name suggests, I know nothing about transits, but a dealer up the road from me has a bunch of ex-BT vans, such as the following:

TRANSIT 300 TDi Van , Manual, Diesel, 2002 02 Reg , 70,000 miles, White. Air bag, Cab Heater, Direct From BT, Engine immobiliser, Full Service History, Hand wash, Interior racking, Ladder rack, Outstanding condition, Power steering, Remote locking, Safety bulkhead, Side loading door, Warranted Mileage, Finance Available, Full Dealer Facilities, One Owner, Warranty. £5,295 +VAT

... and I, in my ignorance reckon that's a bit steep. Had a word with the guy and he reckons he'd knock a couple of hundred off for cash, but that's it. I'd appreciate any advice. :?

BT vans always seem to go for alot more money then other vans. Generally because they have been looked after so well but I have to be honest I don't agree with that and would shop around.

in fact, saw a similar van, also ex-BT, in a private sale which was going for about a grand less - which got me thinking about the merits for an idiot like me of getting something through a dealer with a bit of warranty, rather than chancing it off some bloke's drive, and how much that little bit of security would be worth - not a grand, surely?

The BT vans are definitely well looked after, (by the fleet workshops at least, can't speak so highly of how some of us drive them but can't imagine its any different for other company owned vans). My old mk5 had 5 new tyres (as the old type became unavailable and couldn't mix the two versions) and a new clutch weeks before it was sold off. There was nothing wrong with the old clutch, the pedal was just a bit heavy. I hadn't even complained about it! (and this wasn't to make it ready for sale, they new it was coming to the end of its 'bt life' but it could have stuck around for another year)

The cab heaters are great, you can time then to warm up the cab and demist before you get to the van in the mornings :)

I got mine from BT Fleet.

Don't expect show room service, or the man to know where the keys are when you collect it! I'd say they were quite "relaxed" The sale process also seemed to take a while and you are never entirely sure who to speak to.

Best way is to arrange to see and buy quick, they must get bought by dealers too. I missed a couple but there's always another along soon.

ive got an ex bt van mk6 y 2001 reg. i bought it from the auctions just over a year ago with around 75.000 on the clock now has 82.000 with the full service history printout from bt cost me about £3.750 with vat around 17 months ago.but now i might be parting company with it as i only use it to take my motocross bike in the back. but they are good vans if you can get one at the right price and you can keep switching the flashing orange light on :)

Having contacted BT Fleet I was told they now only release the vans to auction, BCA, Manheim and Cars Direct (on line).

I visited BCA Birmingham for their BT fleet sale on Friday and they had 3 x 54 reg T300 85 SWBs going through the sale. the prices were 3800 for a 50k example, 4450 for a 25k one and 4400 for 37k one(this was the tatiest of the 3) all prices plus VAT.

I know 2 guys who paid around 4500 plus vat for 04 models from dealers 6 months ago, i've read that the prices in the second hand van market have been steadily going up over the last few months which seems to reflect the prices I'm seeing the BT vans going for at the moment.

Ive got the chance of an X-BT van.

Had a bit of a panic attack as i thought an L plate was 1992-1993, it means it was registerd in London and it is a 54 plate LOL

It has a orange light, ladder rack hot and cold water and a work bench.

Think it will be my second home.

waiting for papers to be deliverd to seller from BT.

Other half moaning because it will be in White.

How many seats does a 2004 300 SWB have 2 or 3

:D
