Buying swb mk7

Postby MilesWorld » Sun Sep 12, 2021 11:45 am

Hi all, advice please,
I am after (ideally) a 2012 swb for camping and mobile workshop,
currently looking at an
120-300 2012 132k (x-aa)
and
85-260 2011 103k
i currently live in London so older vans are getting sold, the eur5 may be better future proof, obvs i will have to pay whenever i use the van, but its for getting out of london, not for sitting in traffic jams, any advice on engines ??? both vans look like they have been well looked after, obv the AA van is better spec, any thougts would be gratfully recieved, yours Miles

If it's a FWD 2.2 diesel, then the Euro5 engines are all the same, albeit with different power outputs achieved through mapping. It's also the same basic engine as fitted in Euro4 FWD Transits since 2006.

IF it has been looked after properly, it will run for many miles with basic servicing and oil changes.

Ex AA vans "may" be RWD and have a higher load floor which is not ideal for campers, so bear that in mind.
The 85/260 will probably be FWD but has a lower weight rating (2600kg) than the AA van (3000kg)
A 2011 van may possibly be a euro4 as that was the changeover year :)

FWD Ex-AA van should be perfect, those vans were used for secondary stuff, rather than recovery work, so have had a far easier life than the RWD ones 8)
