Motorcycle Race Transporter : Which Van and Where to Buy?

Postby LondonYank » Tue Apr 15, 2008 9:22 am

Hi All.

Just joined the forum two minutes ago and this is my first post. I'm a motorcycle racer and need to get a proper race transporter. I want a mechanically solid van which is good on the motorway and gets good fuel economy. It should be either swb or mwb and have a mid top roof. I don't mind minor cosmetic issues as long as it doesn't look a total wreck. I really want to avoid having to work on the van as I have enough to deal with keeping the bike in order. I'll probably keep the van for a few years so don't mind spending the money to get something that will last and run trouble free. I have a budget of about £1,500 but can, if really necessary, spend somewhat more. Am I asking too much for my budget? I'm in SE London.

Thanks!

bloody hell, I'm glad I asked. £100 / day!!! Looks like I need to get either a petrol vehicle or spend around £3,000 for a post '02 model so that it meets Euro III.

Anyone know if earlier diesel models meet Euro III emissions standards?

You can use any van you want up til october 2010 then if someone hasn't found a way round LEZ you could upgrade, when a compliant vehicle will be cheaper

or you could vote in a new mayor?

Hey, me too!! I've just registered and also want a race van for my motorcycle :D

Don't quite have the budget of LondonYank, in fact I would be maxing out at a grand. But I want SWB diesel van with tow bar. Thought the plain old SWB would be best bet.

I need it to take the bike + tools and tow a caravan. Need something with enough reliability to get me to the race meetings, doing about 4000 miles per year.

Anyone got any suggestions of what to look out for or what to avoid (just as useful).

I'm based in Brighton, looking for a van immediately.

Thanks.
Gary

PS LondonYank: what do you race? - I'm in Minitwins with Bemsee.
