Best horse power

Postby Steveo.515 » Thu Apr 16, 2009 9:50 pm

Hi, I own a T reg smiley face transit but am looking to update. I want the next model transit but not sure what is good or suitable. I want a short wheel base with a semi high roof. I will be carrying tools and occasionally windows and doors. I don't want to be too under powered. And I don't like to hang about too much. Could anyone tell me what is the best horse power to go for. Thanks guys.

they do a mwb 135 six speed a real van but the 125 is more common and still well powered better still keep your mk5 and go on holiday.

Great reply about holiday, but tell when my mark 5 finally gives up as it is so badly full of rust, how do I work?? I am self employed and as much as I would rather go on holiday, a reliable van is what I need. So thanks for the info on the question I asked but please don't come out with dumb comments.

Steve - this forum is full of light hearted remarks like that please dont get the hump its all meant in fun :)

As neil says there is a 135PS van - but only in RWD so the floor would be higher than a FWD.

TBH any Mk6 will be quicker and have more pulling power than the mk5 you already have as they all have turbos. The most common ones seem to be 85PS (front wheel drive) or 90PS (rear wheel drive). Your current MK5 will be 70 or 76PS (assuming its not a turbo).

At uni we had 2 115PS 15 seat minibus' (3500kg max gross weight) which were often loaded up to, and beyond their limits and they really moved! You would be able to get even more power and economy on a mk6 with a remap (PM martynx about this - he is the man in the know).

I would suggest going and looking at a few vans - dont worry too much about the body style initially - just to see how powerful the newer variants are! You could test drive several with different power outputs
Lucas Laser 2000/IDS
95 Pre Production DRW TD Highcube
95 Hallmark
96 150 100PS LWB Hi-Top
96 Autosleeper Duetto
06 Mk7 (scrap)
09 140PS T330S 2.2
