Hi all, I already have a mk4 (190L, 1993) but am interested in replacing it and buy a more modern one. I was thinking of buying either a Mk5 or Mk6. Have been told that the Mk 6 spares are much more expensive. Is this true?

Regarding reliability which one would you prefer:? Mk5/Mk6. I know about the dfi but not much about the duratec engine. And what about the turbo-diesel engine ones?

My intention is to buy it from the uk and get it overland all the way to Malta. Can you suggest any place where I can view transits in the area of Cheltenham/Cirencester/Bath/Oxford?

personnally id go for a mk 5, but everyone has there preferences, although whats wrong with the mk4, is it having problems, or do you just fancy a change, if the latter, id stick with your mk4

I got rid of a Mk5 to get a Mk6.....

but I wish I'd just got a better Mk5 instead... (mine was rotten)

I think a GOOD Mk5 is better than a Mk6.... but they're hard to find.....

it was hard enough ti find a Mk6 that wasn't abused / rusty

There ARE good mk5s about still, you just got to keep looking until you find one, you will end up looking at loads of sheds before a real gem turns up

yea, the more i think about it, if your in cyprus, then chances are, your chassis good, your bodys good, id stick to the mk4, non of this ecu stuff.

I would like to keep mine but cos of rusted arches, etc..(I'm sure you know the drill) it's giving me hassle with the VehicleRoadworthinessTest (MOT). Mechanically it's good, with everything working. Am changing the windscreen at the moment and hope to pass the next vrt.

Any transit centers in the cheltenham area pls?
