best buy for £3k

Postby nasring » Mon Oct 19, 2009 4:29 pm

I have a budget of £3k and want a camper for me and my 2 sons -

What would you advise as the best buy for someone without much mechanical ability but willing to get hands dirty on basic stuff?

I've been looking at (not very well) converted vans of about 1995-98d and unconverted (mostly very high mileage) vans that are are newer and a bit cheaper.

Can't wrok out if its better to buy a van with the main conversion done for the full £3k (and if so is £3k for a 1997ish the going rate?) or try and get a newer and cheaper one and put the insides in myself.

I don't have a lot of time (single mum, FT job, and already have a time consuming hobby of a horse!) but am tyring to make my money go as far as possible!

I've seen one converted 2.5 diesel 149,000 mile, FSH etc and apparently sound for £2k - is that a reasonable deal with lots of extras (including sat nav and 2 bikes!) http://www.gumtree.com/london/02/46945802.html

If so - what should I check for when viewing?

I am sure some of the more Transit knowledgeable members will be along to offer some advice soon but in the meantime you could do worse than to look here as well ?

See if you can get them to email you the other pics, as it looks like the wing is going and is the bed space any good for you and your lads as you did not say the age group, and its a Greek mobile in case your wondering.

Blimy - good detective work!

I trust the seller - she's and Aussie who is off back home and has emailed and is giving me a UK number once she get a sim.

Sorry to be SO dim - but what's etis?

Ive now got a couple more to look at, one very similar, but the other is a 1987 motorhome still a transit but only 91,000 - worht a look? It looks very clean
