What is that engine fitted in? Looks like an early 90s to me.

You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

I'm afraid so,it's a series 3 I bought it a couple of weeks ago with the engine fitted, I know nothing of the engines history ie what year transit it came out of, so buying filters and parts is a bit awkward.

Hope you don't mind a small green interloper.

shouldn't have too many problems with filters - all DI oil filters are the same - to identify the fuel filter, if it's got a plastic collar on it's '98 on, if it hasn't it's an early one - the air filter may cause a problem but it's probably the standard landie one plumbed in - if you're in doubt about anything on it (timing belt for instance) just get the number off it and your factor will be able to cross it over into something he stocks

looking at the fittings on it - stanadyne injectors, inlet manifold and thermostat housing design etc I'd guess it to be '89 - '91

Thanks for the help. It's been running rough intermittently, loosing all power, and going very lumpy. I finally got round to trying to work out how the fuel filter comes out last night when she flatly refused to go up any sort of hill. It's in a bit of an awkward place to get to but I found the drain screw on the bottom and emptied the filter, seems it was mostly filled with water. It had a collar around the filter housing that had a thumb screw to tighten it up to grip the filter, a bit like a jubilee clip, does this sound like a standard Transit fuel filter?

Also as someone reminded me, what sort of interval should timing belts be changed at on these engines and how difficult is it to do?

I don't know when it was last done so I should probably do it soon.

Thanks again

To me it really doesn't matter when the timing belt was changed . . anytime I get a new van I change the timing belt as a matter of course and write the date/mileage on the timing belt cover in correction fluid or on a sticky label.

How easy is it to do? It takes longer to remove the parts to get to the timing belt, than it does to replace it. The whole job for a first timer should take no more than 3 hours.

Oh . .and while the radiator is off . . flush it through.

Right after having a bit of a search around here It doesn't seem to tricky to do the timeing belt, I'' try and get a kit and maybe have a go over the weekend.
