Help with which transit to buy spec ect

Postby Philious » Fri Jan 14, 2011 1:01 pm

Hi there
I am currently running a 1998 ford transit (smiley face), this van has been a good runner in the time I`ve owned it my only problem is the rust, the back doors are gone at the bottom. looking to upgrade to a mk6 transit 2.0 duratorque engine swb semi hi roof I would also like to have electric windows and fog lights but am unsure of the model these would come as standard or factory fitted, I would appreciate any help and advice you guys could offer
cheers

I`ve looked at a couple on the web 2002 reg and they don`t have electric windows but I think i`ve seen later regs 2005 that do maybe I should look for later reg model I could add the fog/spot lights myself.

Power windows = optional extra :!:
As more people become aware and the option prices go down (or taken as a part of an option pack) it is quite normal to find that the later models will normally have these sorts of options :D

Just an update, I`ve looked at a couple of 04 plates one 05 at 280 85ps, I wasn`t impressed with the drive very much it didn`t wow me and to my surprise a few rusty ones  i found a 260 100ps and bloody ell what a difference in the drive lovely drive and punchy, this one had electric everthing an ex NHS van but it had some bad rust coming through and the buyer wouldn`t budge on the price to get the rust repaired so I left that one but that told me what I wanted, I found a 280 100ps 06 plate 89,000 full service history 12 months mot 6 months tax nice looking van a couple of scabs starting on the body, I negotiated the body be repaired and they get a remote fob sorted and put a deposit down, I will be going back next saturday to pick it up. The price £3795+vat = £ 4554 - £500 for my old very rusty 1998 transit  I`ll post some pics once I get her home.
I have ordered some fog lamps off the bay and wheel trims (although I may pay out the £750 on alloys later on), Does anyone know if you can get electric window pack as an upgrade and how much it would cost?

Looks like your homework has paid off :D
Windows seem about right if you're getting the necessary wiring and switches :?: (see if you can knock a bit off)
Headlights - either those 90% brighter ones (Philips/Halfrauds (when they're @half price))or HIDS

Yes I guess the week I was on me travels looking for this van paid off.
the electric windows come with everthing wiring, blanks, switches ect, I was thinking of getting an auto electrian to fit them we`ll see what sort of price they`re do it for!
The headlight bulbs upgrade not sure about which way I want to go for certainly I want them brighter, kinda hoping the forum members might have a better idea which were best?

That looks nice and clean, Ive got a 280 100 and am very happy with it. Get some waxoil under her asap. What wheel trims have you got, Ive put some new bulbs in mine they have a blue tint and it said on packet 100% brighter, 100% legal. £15 from Partco. If you do a serch there is loads of posts on headlamp upgrades. Dont like HID See them on the roads bright as hell and I bet they get flashed a lot by other cars.Anyway, Nice van, More pics please.
p.s
Same van and milage as mine, Did my egr and inlet cleaning bit, Big difference in power.

Yeah I think i`m going for the mk7 wheel trims, I will wax oil it once they stop putting salt on the road then jetwash underneath and waxoil, I quite like the hid bulb upgrade I`ll do a search in the forum for bulbs, I`ll have to try the egr cleaning if it increases the power
more pics to come once I`ve cleaned polished and added a few things.

A nice unexpensive mod for the back is the mk7 rear lights, Done mine and I like. Is yours a tddi or tdci engine on a 06.
If its a tddi the egr is very easy to do,Just make sure you got some old overalls on as its a very dirty job.
Dont forget pics, pics, pics. We all love pics on here.

The only TDci MK6 are the 125ps FWD and the 135ps RWD
